Because Dr, Henry has provided educational and employment opportunities for countless young people in the community, a new elementary school was named after her. Last October, the Dr. Mildred Dalton Henry Elementary School celebrated its grand opening.

For many members of the class of 2014, achieving this milestone was an especially long road, marked by hurdles that needed, well, hurdling.

Since 1986, when Dr. Henry started the PAL Center, she has helped thousands of kids become productive members of society.
What impressed me about these young people is that they buckled down, took control of their lives and graduated.

So, the school of her dreams had to offer educational programs and employment services to disadvanged kids, she determined.
These are kids who might not make it if not for the PAL Center and Charter Academy.
Henry, the spark behind the learning center, grew up in a segregated South. Her resolve to build a school rose out of the ashes of her family burned out farm like a Phoenix.

Diplomas were presented to 57 graduates.
No excuses. No me. are the stories of students taken from their mothers when they were children, raised by a family member or in foster care; or students struggling with special education challenges; kids from abusive homes.
This time of year, thousands of young people are moving on to a new chapter in their lives, taking that monumental step from high school toward higher education, jobs and adulthood.
